Week 1 Colourful semantics (Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis - writing a diary entry)

(0)
This comprehensive English resource is based on the popular novel “Sky Hawk” by Gill Lewis and provides a week’s worth of engaging lessons. Using colourful semantics, the resource focuses on improving learners’ sentence structure and writing skills. The cycle of work leads to the creation of a diary entry as Iona, with a particular focus on developing three essential skills including; fronted adverbials, consistent use of past tense, and subordinate clauses (this can differentiated). Additionally, the resource includes necessary documents, including the model text based on Sky Hawk, and information sheets on ospreys, which is a key element in the story. As it is based on using colourful semantics, it’s an excellent option for intervention groups. Don’t miss out on the whole class version at a Year 5 level, also available in our store! Weeks 2 and 3 of the Sky Hawk English lessons are available as separate purchases. To make things easier and more cost-effective for you, I am also offering a bulk purchase option for all three weeks. If you find this resource useful, it would be greatly appreciated it if you could take a moment to leave a review. Thank you :)

This week-long English resource is designed for Year 5 learners and is based on the captivating novel Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis. It is part of a comprehensive three-week cycle aimed at enhancing learners’ writing skills, culminating in the creation of a diary entry as the character Iona. The resource consists of five days of engaging and interactive lessons, carefully crafted to address key writing skills. Throughout the cycle, students will focus on mastering subordinate clauses, fronted adverbials of time, place, and manner, as well as maintaining consistent use of the past tense. In addition, the resource provides opportunities for students to develop their understanding of the challenges faced by endangered animals. In week three of the cycle, students will delve deeper into the minds of the characters, enabling them to authentically plan and write their own diary entry. To provide valuable support and scaffolding, the resource includes a planning template that guides students through the process and helps organise their ideas. Additionally, to save teachers time, completed examples are provided, serving as models for students and facilitating a clearer understanding of expectations. To add a touch of creativity, the resource also includes an osprey-themed writing page border, providing a beautiful platform to showcase learners’ completed work. This resource also includes a differentiated PowerPoint for learners that need to focus on sentence structure, using colourful semantics. This PowerPoint can be used with a separate group, as an additional intervention, or integrated into the whole class lesson.
